the palace guard is unironically the best shock infantry in the game

It is not the unit Sturgia deserves, but it is the one it needs. In all seriousness, a T6 upgrade after Shock Troop or Veteran Warrior would be fitting for the CQC faction.

We need a "Target __ unit type" battle command.

Cavalry is pretty idiotic and seem to be downright useless in Bannerlord. They charge into the enemy line, get stuck and proceed to sit there fighting in place till they die. I only keep 15-20 in my army to help me deal with Khuziat horse archers.. That being said, the only way to really do that is set my Cav to follow and just run around after the Archers and hope my men pick 1 or 2 off as I chase them around. It would be great if I could set my Cav to Charge their Horse Archers or set them to charge the enemy Foot Archers as my infantry engages the enemy infantry.

What I wish I knew about skills before starting - Bannerlord

    Posted: 13 May 2020 06:56 AM PDT

Trade, Scout, and Tactics seem to be nearly worthless skills. Trading is an okay money maker in the beginning but loses its momentum VERY quickly.

Smithing is an amazing moneymaker. Buy as much Hardwood as you can and smith any chance you get to keep leveling. 2H swords were extremely profitable for me. Your companions can smith as well! Finding a "the Smith" companion helps as well.

Leadership is important but cannot effectively be leveled until you are part of a Kingdom and control an army. Creating an army of your own companions doesn't cost any influence and levels Leadership fairly well.

Disciplinarian (125 Leadership) was a turning point for me. Being able to train bandits into powerful units significantly speeds up army development.

Charm - Stop and talk to as many clan leaders (armys) as you can as you pass them and always give them something, like cheap arrows, for free. This appears to level charm quickly. I have also seen success in trading nothing for nothing and still gaining a level in Charm.

Steward levels quickly with high moral. Moral stays high with a good variety of food. Once cashflow is decent, make sure you keep around 25-50 of each different food type.

Have not tried crossbows but the bow is amazing in all combat situations. Especially raiding hideouts where you potentially go against 40+ units with your small group.

Putting extra points in a skills speeds up the rate you learn it. I originally thought the green zone represented the maximum skill level but skills still level beyond the green zone as you use them.

Many skill traits are still broken. A big one for me is the trait which should allow you to use any bow on horseback.

Hopefully this helps anyone who is just starting. Enjoy!

    Exploit: Level Trade Skill FAST

    Posted: 13 May 2020 03:38 AM PDT

Did you know that if you have a city, there's a menu option in the keep for "Go to Stash"?

Your stash is where you can put things that you don't want to sell, but also don't want to carry around.

Currently, putting things in your stash counts as "selling" them, and gives you trade experience. And since it's not a market and you're not selling them... it costs nothing to get the items back again...

Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

EDIT: Apparently there are some limitations. Not sure if I have it all figured out. I got 60 levels of Trading in one shot the first time I tried this, but it doesn't seem to be repeatable. Further testing needed.

Recent and interesting developer posts on the official forums - Part II

    Posted: 13 May 2020 09:59 AM PDT

It's time to catch up with the developers again!

Since not all of you are on the game's official forums or have time to sift through comments, I've decided to compile recent and interesting information posted there. Please feel free to comment with other posts that you may have found.

    • Starvation in cities is a known issue and is being worked on. [source]
    • Currently, AI lords can recruit one slot ahead in a recruitment table, even if they don't have enough relations to do so. However, removing this "cheat" is planned, and will happen as soon as starting relations between lords and notables are introduced in a future update. [source]
    • AI lords always know how many recruits they can get on a village before visiting it, so you will never see a lord that is recruiting visiting a village and not getting recruits from there. [source]
    • Sturgia hasn't received major buffs yet, and probably need a few. Expect them in a future update. [source]
    • Sturgia will likely have its culture bonus reworked. Also, reasons for it currently being one of the weakest factions are under investigation. [source]
    • For sieges, the developers wanted to remove the current 20% bonus that cavalry units receive in simulations. However, due to the way that simulations are currently coded, it could generate more problems than solutions at the moment. Nonetheless, this will likely be changed in the future. [source]
    • Up until 1.2, there was a bug that prevented clans defecting from the player's faction. This has been solved in 1.3 and 1.4. However, now that this bug has been fixed, defections are happening too often and it is something that has been specially problematic in the late game. The constant defections are probably happening because when the player convinces an AI clan to join the faction, no relation is gained between the player and the clan. Also, currently players cannot give fiefs they own to newly incorporated clans. The developers are aware of these problems and will probably work on them in a few weeks. [source]
    • Related to the previous point, a good indicative that a clan won't stay in your faction for very long is how much money they ask for when joining your faction. The amount of money they ask for is calculated on the basis of the difference between their current position (regarding ownership of fiefs and relations) and the position they will be if they join your faction. So, the more expensive they are, the less likely are they to stay in your faction. As with the previous point, the developers are aware of this and will work on it. [source]
    • Artisans in towns do not offer recruits and this is intended. [source]

That's all we have for now, unless I've missed something.

    Previous thread.
