[PSA] You can control troops with your mouse like Total War, even making formations wider or thinner

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:27 AM PDT

Howdy, I just found out that when you select a group of troops with your number keys and press alt (It's kinda janky though, might need to hold it for a while/press it a few times) you can click and drag on the ground with left click to move them and make their formation wider or thinner just like in Total War, good for making a single file line of archers so they don't get blocked by eachother.

I was hoping for this feature so badly in warband times and freaked out a little when I found out I could do this just now lol, Here's hoping there's going to be a way to get an aerial view so we can take advantage of that a bit easier.

EDIT: You don't have to press alt first, just found out.

We should have the option to duel lords instead of execute them, so we dont lose as much relation. Obviously there should be huge requirements and only some lords would want to agree, but have the lords be randomized or related to their personality.

If you are a fearsome warrior with bad relations nobody wants to duel you as an example.

Horse Archer behavior in combat - You might not know this.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 12:07 AM PDT

Just putting this here in case someone else will be running a pure horse archer warband.

When using the "Movement" -> "Advance" command for Horse Archers they will charge towards enemy as if about to run them over, then stop abruptly in front of the enemy, fire arrows and retreat. They then continue this skirmish style of advance and retreat over and over, always keeping distance from enemy.

When using the "Movement" -> "Charge" command they will charge forward and then go around the enemy, circling them in a counterclockwise rotation while unloading arrows into the center (also known as a Cantabrian Circle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantabrian_circle.)

This is really effective against infantry, especially if you have large numbers of mounted archers. The only issue is if there are obstacles around, like buildings, fences, large rocks and boulders and of course trees. Then they tend to bump into things and get jammed up a bit. But in the desert, plains, steppes, open fields and many other places it's absolutely murder.

Anyways, just wanted to let people know this nice feature in the game as it isn't evident until you actually start using and observing the behavior of the mounted archers as they fight.

Do you know of any other units that have particular attack styles or variations on how they fight based on what type of order you give them? E.g. advance vs charge and so on?
