    Hello everyone!

As you have probably noticed, this subreddit has spiked greatly in activity since the release of Bannerlord, with many posts, especially ones containing questions or discussions being made. Unfortunately, a lot of these posts are also simply going unnoticed due to the sheer volume of things drowning each other out.

We would like to bring to everyone's attention that alongside this subreddit we also host an official, partnered community discord server supported by TaleWorlds devs where you can ask your questions, talk about the game, resolve technical and bug issues, and just have a good time in general!

The discord is also the first place where you will learn about any events we're hosting such as the Calradic Campaigns of the past, or smaller skirmishes held by smaller portions of the community. Likewise, the discord is a great place to group up with other players to play multiplayer matches in a voice channel, or to simply have people to talk with while playing the game in singleplayer.

When joining our server we would like everyone to first read and consider the rules, as a partnered server we pride ourselves on providing a community free of harassment, bigotry, and hostility in general. When joining the server you will land on a page where you can read these rules, as well as choose a faction to align yourself with, or choose "commoner" if you haven't made up your mind just yet.

Everyone is welcome to the discord, we would like to see you there!

    FAQ

    courtesy of /u/Arthanias

When will the game leave early access?

    • TW has said the EA may last around a year's time, though this is subject to change.

Will the game be released on consoles?

    • Yes, though the release date for this is still unknown.

I'm having issues playing the game, but my 1050/1060/1070/1080 clears the minimum required specs!

    • These GPUs have been reported not to work well with the game at the moment, updating your drivers may help, though if you are suffering severe issues consider waiting for a patch/driver update and sending TW any crash reports you can.

How do I mod the game?

    • As unified, official modding tools have not yet been released, it's best to consult online guides and #mnb-mods for help with this issue. ** What does the "enable death" option do?**

    • With this option enabled NPCs may die in combat or be executed by lords, you yourself will not die in battle but you are still at risk of execution.

Why am I moving so slowly on the campaign map?

    • This may be due to several things: if your inventory contains too many live animals then you will incur a "herd" speed penalty. If your party consists solely of (slow) footmen then purchasing non-pack horses will allow them to mount up outside of combat to improve speed. Carrying items, troops, or prisoners over their respective limits will slow you down severely. The mule and sumpter horse are the dedicated pack animals of the game, the sumpter horse allows you to move faster on the campaign map than the mule.

How do I improve my party's morale?

    • Winning battles and having a large variety of food are the simplest ways of accomplishing this.

How do I improve X skill?

    • In your character screen, every skill when hovered over displays a section showing the ways used to train it.

How do I raise my charm? It's not very clear…

    • Bartering with lords through the "I have a proposal" option, capturing and releasing them, and bribing keep guards.

How do I find X noble?

    • Press 'N' to open the encyclopedia and find the desired lord, their latest reported location is displayed in the top right.

Can I change my character's or my banner's looks mid-game?

    • Yes! Just press V and you go into the character creator menu or press B to edit your banner.

How do I get to know details more about a settlement?

    • Simply right click on the label above the settlement, this takes you to its encyclopedia page.

How do I equip my companions with new equipment?

    • In the inventory screen, press the arrows at the middle top of the screen to navigate to the companions in your party.

How do I assign a companion to a clan role, and what skills are used for them?

    • To do this talk to a companion outside of a town through the party screen and talk to them about giving them a role.

    Surgeon: Medicine

    Quartermaster: Steward

    Scout: Scout

    Engineer: Engineer

How do I get new parts for smithing?

    • You can get both part blueprints and materials from smelting down captured weapons, this also earns you raw resources.

    How do I make money?

    • Currently the most effective ways of earning money are completing quests, selling prisoners, and manual trading. Two very effective resources to trade are furs and silver ore, though the economy is dynamic, and this may change in your game.

How do I buy a workshop?

    • "Walk around" in a town, and by holding Alt find a location marked "workshop", there you can buy a workshop for 15k by talking to the workers.

    How do I gain Influence?

    • Influence is best earned in service to a kingdom, either as a mercenary or as a vassal.

A new patch is out but my launcher displays an old number, what gives?

    • The main file off which the launcher run is often not updated in these hotfix-like early updates, check the mods tab of your launcher to display the versions of your game modules.

When resuming my save file my game tells me something about a module mismatch, what is going on?

    • It's likely that a patch has been released since you last played the game, you can simply press yes and load up the save, if your save is unplayable with the newest patch it's best to simply start a new game, as trying to maintain a single save throughout Early Access is unfeasible.

X Kingdom is completely dominating all the others in my game, what is happening?

    • If your save file stems from an early patch, it is likely that this kingdom profited from the workshop glitches that existed at the time, causing them to have near-unlimited funds. Starting a new save is the best way to "fix" this.

    • If your save stems from a later patch, it's likely to simply be the result of inherent balancing issues with an Early Access game. Punished ArthanasLast Thursday at 8:55 PM

Where do I see my smithing stamina?

    • This is visible on your portrait on the bottom left, hovering over it in the smithing menu displays your stamina.

Companions have smithing skill sometimes, how do I use this?

    • Clicking the portrait mentioned above allows you to swap between characters!

Why is settlement prosperity so low and how do I improve it?

    • Settlement loyalty (morale) affects production, though it doesn't show in tooltip. Remove your governor if they have the -2 to culture, have the daily default Festival and Games with nothing in the construction queue. Build fairgrounds when production is positive.

Why can't I upgrade my footmen into cavalry, it says I need a horse but I have plenty of sumpter horses and mules!

    • Pack animals like these do not count as "horses" for this purpose.

But I have these big warhorses and it still doesn't work!

    • Warhorses count as a class of their own, they are used to upgrade heavy cav so you can't use them to make light cav from footmen.

How do I assemble a caravan?

    • Talk to an artisan in a city, these will be named characters, in dialogue you can pay them 15k to build a caravan and send it out, led by one of your companions.

How do I dissolve a caravan?

    • This is done through the clan screen (L-Key), the caravan is visible among your clan's parties.

Is there any way for me to quickly gain influence?

    • If you're flush with cash, you can recruit large amounts of troops and donate these to allied factions or cities.

    • Another method is to donate prisoners to these same towns rather than selling them. Punished ArthanasYesterday at 2:34 PM

How do I marry a character?

    • Courtship is established through a response following the "I have something to discuss" dialogue option, after successful courtship through speech checks the character's liege must be convinced, after which you'll be married.

How do I get a child?

    • Simply spending time with your spouse either in a settlement or party will eventually result in one.

I have children but when do they grow up?

    • This takes 18 ingame years.

What is the point of adult children then?

    • These can be used as companions past the cap the tavern wanderers use up, and if your character dies you can continue to play as one of your children.

I created my own kingdom but I'm having X issue!

    • As a blanket statement, player kingdom creation is simply not fully supported in the game as it is, if you are facing significant issues with making or dealing with your own kingdom, it's because of that. We do not recommend creating your own kingdom at this time.

I fought as a mercenary for a faction, but now that I've left they hate me!

    • Unlike in Warband a mercenary contract is a more permanent affair, if you wish to return to 30 day contracts which you can end without penalty there are mods for this.

Can I ask the mods what the devs are planning for the game?

    • None of the staff in this discord are associated with Taleworlds, we know just as much about the development as the game as you, so asking this is fruitless.

Unpopular opinion: The removal of autoblock made the game better

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:37 AM PDT

I have 3-400 hours logged on Warband with various mods and I always enabled autoblock. That made the fights tedious after a while since i only spammed left click and right click without much thought but I wasn't good enough to remove the autoblock.

The removal of autoblock was really refreshing in combat. It's a lot harder and much more unforgiving. This almost stopped me from playing the game in the beginning but I'm so happy that I just manned up and git gud since it's way more fun. It just feels so god damn nice to win a duel where your shield is broken from prior enemies and you're low on health.

Mercenary suggestions after playing as a merc post e1.0.8

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:11 AM PDT

I have posted this on the main forum here too. I have split this up into:

    • UI changes (that are not strictly tied to mercenary gameplay, but would be very helpful for it) and
    • Mercenary contract changes.
    • How the AI would assign contract clauses

    UI changes.

    • A mercenary statistics tab in the clan screen [visible when a mercenary contract is active] to show me my stats on my current contract, stuff like:
      • Employed for N days
      • Gold accrued from contract
      • Gold spent buying replacement units during this contract
      • Friendly units lost / friendly parties lost (i.e. run by companions or spouse)
      • Hostile units / parties destroyed
      • Nobles captured / freed / killed (see below)
    • A world information tab in the clan screen
      • Let us see how many men each empire has, and who is at war with whom.
        • (you cannot currently see this without joining a kingdom)
      • This is important now as mercenary contract payouts are now linked to the relative power of empires in wars.

    Mercenary contract changes

    • Contract length & termination.
      • Make contracts last for a year (84 days)
        • You can then extend a contract with the same terms when it matures - provided your employer is still in a war with someone.
        • Or end it / not extend it with no rep-hit with your employer.
      • Reputation hit from ending contracts prematurely.
        • If an empire is at peace, you should be able to end a contract by speaking to the lord and take no reputation hit.
        • If an empire is at war and you end a contract prematurely, you should still get a reputation hit.
          • (which is how it works currently - but maybe reduce it a little as it's -20 same as leaving as a vassal).

Currently, in 1.0.8 I've been releasing every noble/hero character I find after a victory as I'm technically not being paid to kill nobles (and I am not being paid extra for that long-term reputation hit from cutting their heads off). I'd like to see something like the "terms and conditions" of my contract in addition to the offered pay when i'm negotiating with a lord, they'd set a statute of limitations, of what I can and cannot do, per my contract.

I have included 3 main clauses below that cover most of the (existing) game interactions:

Contractual terms and conditions of warfare

    1. Nobles clause
      • [No Nobles clause] - You may do whatever you want to nobles after a battle (i.e. how things are by default)
      • [Executing Nobles Prohibited] - You may not execute any nobles that you capture from any empires we are at war with.
        • A bonus cash sum is paid to the mercenary captain for each Noble prisoner delivered to an allied castle / dungeon.
          • Your contract gets voided & you get a BIG reputation hit with your employer if you execute a noble
            • (A warning should pop up and remind players that executing someone would violate their terms and conditions).
      • [Mandatory executions] - You must execute any nobles that you capture from any empires we are at war with.
        • A large bonus cash-sum is paid to the mercenary captain for each severed noble head delivered.
          • If you let an enemy noble go free you receive a small, but repeatable, reputation hit with your employer.
          • Do it too many times and they may void your contract.
    2. Pillage clause
      • [No Raiding clause] - You may do whatever you want to villages & roaming villager parties. (i.e. how things are by default)
      • [Raiding villages Prohibited] - You may not raid enemy villages & roaming villager parties.
        • Raided villages are out of comission for a while and harm the local economy, a shrewd king knows that tyranny begets a prosperous rule. Your employer might not want their mercenary companies ravaging their new lands and it's people.
    3. Caravan clause
      • [No Caravan clause] - You may raid enemy caravans if you like (i.e. how things are by default)
      • [Attacking Caravans Prohibited] - You may not raid enemy caravans.
        • Caravans operate across war-fronts, servicing multiple cities, destroying caravans could hurt your employer's own economy / city prosperity.
        • So it may not be in your employers best interests to have you wiping out every enemy caravan you see.

So when you negotiate a contract with a lord they would tell you:

    1. The contract lasts for 1 full year (i.e. current date to next year, current date) with the option to roll-over if they are still at war with someone.
      • And that they expect a full year of service from you unless they are at peace (to remind the player there is a reputation hit if you leave your employer, whilst they are at war and counting on you).
    2. The amount you can expect to be paid
    3. The terms and conditions (if any) as they apply to
      1. Nobles.
        • If there is a noble clause active they would also state
          • the bonus cash amount (e.g. 1000 gold) for each noble prisoner brought to a dungeon,
          • or each noble executed (e.g. 5000 gold)
      2. Pillaging Villages & attacking villagers.
      3. Caravans.
    4. And the consequences of breaking any contractual clause (e.g. -10 reputation for first time, contract is voided if you do it again)

How the AI would pick which clause to offer the player / other mercenaries: Clauses would be given by the AI based upon the lord's character traits

    • e.g. cruel lords might be happy to let you raid villages,
    • merciful lords might demand that executing nobles is a prohibited action whilst you work for them.

    ---

    Additional thoughts

    ---

The nobles requirements would be a good way to actually make me want to stop-off at castles to drop off noble prisoners.

    • My rationale is nobles still stick to their own kind/class, they'd probably want to avoid hiring/financing a bloodthirsty noble-killing mercenary - as they know it could be their own neck on the chopping block one day - mercenaries are only loyal to gold.

There is some historical basis in trying to minimise collateral damage in war, too, so not unduly harming peasants or caravans makes some sense too.

    • Mostly this was done for religious reasons in Europe, that one should be decent to their fellow man,
    • Or it was implicit within the "feudal contract" between noble and commoner. Nobility were meant to look out for their charges (whether they always did or not, is another matter).
    • Or shrewd kings / lords who knew that ruling over a rubble pile was worthless to them etc

Though these medieval measures were nowhere near as robust as more modern attempts (Geneva convention etc).

Any opinions on all of this?

    Edit: typos/formatting.
