City battles should actually be fought through the city

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 10:07 PM PDT

Right now, the game has some really fantastic city scenes that don't really get used to their full potential. The way things are currently set up means that the player has no need to walk around, so all that work kind of goes to waste. That makes me think, what if city sieges could extend past just the walls into the whole town itself?

Right now, the defending army places its troops right near the walls, and spawns all of its reinforcements just a couple of paces away from the gate. When that clump of soldiers gets overwhelmed, troops desert and run away (somewhere). Out of that whole city-scape, only the walls get used. Maybe instead of spawning reinforcements right in front of the gate, the defending army would start spawning in certain checkpoints throughout the city streets. That would lead to close-quarters skirmishes in alleyways and shops, and archers could take up positions on second stories.

This would all probably require more garrison troops, or at least fewer going to the walls in the initial phase. Personally I think that works, since right now the troops in front of the gate are sitting ducks no matter what. Better to put them in the streets instead of one big square. This would better show off those city models, and make city sieges a lot more fun. What do you think?

When you've conquered the whole map, there should be a mechanic which let's you retire and split your empire between your children.

It could be a cool way to keep the game going after the whole map has been conquered. Your original character retires and you continue to play as one of your heirs.

The new kingdoms could be formed along cultural lines.

    What do you think?
